Research into Cameo

Been looking at the old famous 'cameo' jewelry, as I'm drawing most of my imagery from the past and this is one of the most famous styles of jewelry from back then..

.
Cameos are carvings traditionally done on shell or stone. Motifs differ - you might see carved florals, a group of people, the had and shoulders of one person or perhaps carvings representing figures from mythology.

It says that there is piece of cameo jewelry to suit every taste...this idea of a piece of jewelry being suited to everyones taste is something I want to try and look into more as all my pieces so far are very female orientated and men don't really wear much but badges do they? So I should be able to put together a good enough design with a more male feel...

Cameo-wise, I would really like to experiment with this idea of a sillouete/side-profile of females for some more brooches, possibly a series of women?

Also, findind out about the foiling and wood combination would look lovely to frame a pretty silouette.
